Mary Edwards Walker was a doctor, abolitionist, advocate for women’s rights, Civil War surgeon, and prisoner of war. She was the only woman to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. Her medal was revoked, but she refused to give it back. In 1977, her honor was restored.
